We recommend you go for a petrol car over a diesel one for your first car as there aren’t many little diesel cars on sale now adays. If you can get a car that’s a small petrol with a stop start that would be the best way to go. This is because it reduces the running costs even more so you aren’t paying out more than needed!
If you have an automatic only licence then you are obviously more limited to automatic cars which tend to be more expensive than manual cars anyway. But as said above try to go for a smaller one to get you started so you aren’t over intimidated by a bigger car.
