The B4 S is Alpina’s own rival of the BMW 4 Series but it is more like the M4 in terms of overall performance. Despite being fitted with a basic 3.0 litre six-cylinder petrol engine, the Alpina does provide more power than the BMW.
It costs around the same as a Mercedes-AMG C 63 or Audi RS5, but is it worth the money?
The B4 S is designed with two turbochargers, which work to produce 434bhp. But even at high speeds the Alpina does not compromise on driving experience, with a smooth ride and a harsh six noise from its sports engine.
Not designed to be a city car, the eight speed automatic gearbox at a low speed, is a little sharp and it can struggle with moving slowly through traffic, even in the comfort driving mode.
Though not built for cities. you do have options to suit your driving style on the open road. With a selection between Eco, Comfort Sport and Sport Plus settings. These will bring you better throttle responses, stiffer suspension for more involvement as a driver.
The B4 S has everything that is great about the 4 Series, but also a few things that don’t quite live up to the BMW.
So what’s so great about it? Designed for sport, you’ll be sitting low to get that racing feeling. Though you can adjust the seat using the electronic adjustments, meaning even taller drivers will be able to get comfortable.
The dash board is covered with amazing quality leather and the steering wheel is very unique and luxurious. But, some of the plastic components on the car further down feel a bit cheap, so do some of the stitches. It does have an amazing IDrive system though, made up of a 10.2 in screen between the two front seats, a Sat-nav, Bluetooth and DAB radio. But Apple CarPlay does cost you extra.
There is a lot of rear seat space for a sport designed car, with wide doors that allow easy access in and out of the additional seats. Though there is a sloping roof, meaning passengers will need to watch their head while getting in and out. There is space for two people in the back of the car with a retractable arm rest in-between.
The boot space is great, it is wide with a deep tip so heavy things can be placed inside. Very easy to load and more space can be created when the rear seats are pushed down.
This is an expensive car, but Alpina hasn't been stingy on any of their design and all the extras that come with it.
Running costs of this car are steep, like its rivals. The B4 S gets through quite a bit of fuel and the tyres get worn down quickly. There is also a higher servicing cost, because of its high powered engine. But for someone willing to pay the additional fees, it really is great to drive.
The Alpina B4 S won’t make laps as quickly as an M4, but the B4 S is still fast and comfortable. It has great performance, is very comfortable to ride in and it has a great information system. Even though it may not be quite as practical as the B3 saloon.
Can you replace this with an opening paragraph rather than 'in this blog' and listing the sections? - Just mention the car, that you'll be reviewing it, when it was released, who by, what the company has released in the past / their last notable model etc
